Hunterville Upgrade

Streamlining our works

Upgrading our overhead network in Hunterville had its challenges.

To give customers a safer and more secure power supply, we needed to replace poles, crossarms and overhead lines along some remote roads in the area.

But narrow roads meant we needed traffic management and road closures in place so that crews could work safely and move equipment. At times, we had to use a helicopter to bring in large equipment.

The work also required 15 planned outages for various customers, which we know are never convenient.

By using three contractors – Obertech, Electrix and Downer – we were able to minimise the impact on customers and complete our work quickly and safely.

Each contractor was responsible for a separate stretch of the works, allowing maintenance to take place at the same time along the road, minimising the length of time it would take and reducing the impact on customers.
